Field to the Hill 2017

IMG_2299Farm Bureau members traveled to Washington D.C. May 23-25 for the annual Field to the Hill national advocacy trip. More than 80 members visited with the Florida congressional delegation on federal priority issues that impact Florida Farmers and ranchers.

Top issues discussed included immigration reform and e-verify; NAFTA renegotiation and estate tax repeal.

Samuel West of Manatee County is a first-time member of the Field to the Hill fly-in group. “I am so grateful to have the experience of meeting with my senators and representatives in Washington. It is so important to stay engaged with our lawmakers and being able to spend time with them in their D.C. offices really brought the process full circle,” said West.

American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall welcomed guests on day one of the trip and thanked them for staying engaged. “This is an exciting time to tell your story. If we don’t speak up for agriculture now, we will miss our opportunity,” stated Duvall.

Members also heard from experts on NAFTA, immigration and estate tax to help prepare them for their meetings.

The trip ended with a visit to USDA. To view photos of the trip, visit our online photo album.
