HYDRAULIC FLUID 303: A WARNING

Georgia and Missouri have issued stop sale orders on “303” Tractor Hydraulic Fluid (THF), used in farm and industrial tractors and construction equipment. THF serves as a hydraulic and transmission fluid and gear oil.

The THF 303 specification was discontinued in the 1970s and was subsequently replaced with the current JDM-J20C or D specifications.

According to the Petroleum Quality Institute of America, there are no specifications available for 303 Tractor Hydraulic Fluids and such products making “303” claims cannot be tested to assure compliance with any known specifications.

Labels may be misleading and while farmers pay less per gallon, they may end up paying more for equipment repairs.
