Polk County hosted its inaugural Agriculture and Education Conference, bringing together farmers, ranchers, educators, and school administrators to explore new ways to integrate agricultural literacy into the classroom. The event drew more than 150 attendees from across the county and surrounding region.

The conference featured presentations on farm-to-school programs, agricultural career pathways, and hands-on learning opportunities for students. Participants heard from teachers who have successfully incorporated agriculture into their curriculum, as well as farmers who have opened their operations to student field trips and educational tours.

"When students understand where their food comes from and the hard work that goes into producing it, they develop a deeper appreciation for agriculture and the people who feed our communities," said PCFB Program Director Carole McKenzie. "This conference is a first step toward building lasting partnerships between our farming community and our schools."

Polk County Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom program was highlighted as a model for connecting educators with agricultural resources. The program provides teachers with lesson plans, classroom materials, and opportunities to visit working farms throughout the school year.
